Learning Neuro Linguistics

By learning neuro linguistics you will be able to understand and then direct and control how you think and feel. "Neuro" relates to the brain and "linguistics" refers to language.

Over a decade ago I became fascinated with the field of personal development and the study of top achievers in a variety of areas of life.

As I began to learn more and more, I realized something was missing from all the books and tapes. The books told you to think positive, but not describe specifically how to think positive.

Then I was introduced to NLP through Anthony Robbins' book 'Unlimited Power'. In that book Tony Robbins shares specific strategies and tools that can be used in order to get your mind moving in the right direction.

Neuro linguistics teaches that the map is not the territory. This refers to the idea that you experience your world through all your senses, which represents the territory.

Next you take the external factors (hearing, sight, touch, smell and taste) and make an internal representation within your brain, which represents the map.

Another teaching of neuro linguistics is that there is no failure, only feedback. This is a very powerful belief to adopt. Everyone experiences setbacks and challenges. You have a choice between being upset and anguishing over the results you've generated or simply viewing it as feedback and then adjusting your strategy accordingly.

A third belief is that individuals have all the resources they need to achieve their desired outcomes. This extremely powerful generalization means you have all the resources you need to accomplish any goal or dream. Neuro lingusitics teaches a number of excellent techniques to help access those internal resources.

Lastly, every behavior has a positive intent. This includes both productive and non-productive behavior. This is a very powerful assumption to have in all your communication with others. A lot of bad behavior has a secondary gain, which is the benefit someone gets subconsciously from it. By understanding the positive intention that’s making a person act in an un-resourceful way, you can increase your flexibility and adjust your communication accordingly.

By adopting the above beliefs and learning neuro linguistics, you can begin to run your brain in new, empowering ways as well as begin to direct and control how you think and feel on a daily basis.
